Hi! There's a new version available (api2), recommended for all new and future development.

We plan to continue to support the legacy version of the API well into 2017 (and later if you let us know), but we do recommend all developers migrate to the new api2 format as your development cycle allows. We strongly recommend that all new recipe and grocery API developers begin with https://api2.bigoven.com

Usage Throttling

We want to serve as many users around the world as possible, but we need to roll it out in a measured and sustainable way.

Each paid API plan level has different levels of hourly requests. You can see the current request count in the Developer Console. The BigOven API imposes limits on the maximum rate at which requests can be made of the API server. This throttling exists to ensure a high quality experience for all consumers by protecting against abuse of the service.

We understand that in some cases this limit may negatively impact the legitimate activity of a consuming application. Upon request, a BigOven administrator can review your needs and increase the cap as necessary. Adjustment might be subject to a usage fee. We're happy to support great use of the recipe content; just let us know if this is a constraint for you and we'll be happy to discuss and work it out.
